COEDO Brewery (Japan): Superior Taste Award creates high trust of the customers

Since 2006, the Kyodoshoji Co Ltd has been testing many of the beers brewed at the COEDO brewery by the International Taste & Quality Institute.  They have been awarded each year with 1, 2 or 3 golden  stars Superior Taste Awards.  Specially the Coedo Beniaka brand, which has received 3 golden stars in 2007, 2008 & 2009 and has therefore been honored by a Crystal Award. In this video, the CEO of the company, Mr Shigeharu Asagiri, is explaining how he has used the Superior Taste Awards to build and increase  trust of the customers in the Coedo brands.

New video presentation of the International Taste & Quality Institute

This year, next to the usual presentation of the tasting sessions itself, we included escerpts of some conversations we had with producers form Japan, Spain and Belgium , who told us how a Superior Taste Award can bring lot of added value to their products.

This new video will be standard on our website from now on.   But here you can see it already in internet Premiere.   The world premiere showing of it took place at the Awards Ceremony of the 26th of May, in Brussels, Belgium.

The Superior Taste Award & Aguas de Mondariz: Showing off is essential!

The Superior Taste Award is certainly a powerful tool in communicating about a product’s taste to a consumer or a consumer group. This is not everything however as, increasingly, companies need to show to their partners and their distribution channels that their products are going to be successful on the market to justify their space on the shelves!





Aguas de Mondariz understood this and made their Superior Taste Award extremely visible on their Trade-Fair stall. In this way, the company showcases the superiority of their products to the industry, setting the necessary base for a successful delivery to the consumer.





Although primarily interested in identifying, judging, rewarding and promoting superior tasting food and drink, the International Taste & Quality Institute is always delighted to see proactive promotion activities of it’s participating products. Aguas de Mondariz has made it clear, in using the Marketing Tools put at its availability, that it is both interested in the gustatory quality of its water and in promoting this to the industry, its clients and the final consumer.

The Award, so much more than just a label!

Last Thursday, the International Taste & Quality Institute released the Sensory Analysis reports, containing the comments formulated by the chefs and sommeliers as they tasted the products.


iTQi strives to offer its clients more than just another label! We always hope that companies will use the results and feedback our renowned chefs and sommeliers to improve their products and develop new, interesting flavours for consumers. In facts, even our Taste Experts appreciate the way products develop year after year and improve based on their comments.

“Since the Superior Taste Award, our plant has not stopped producing!”

Promoting great tasting Food and Drink, helping producers improve their products and increase their sales has always been the International Taste & Quality Institute’s key objectives. We consider it a success when one of our clients come back to us the following year with new products and tell us the award has had a positive effect on their sales.


You can understand that we were delighted when Ms. Shimoi, Subsection Chief at Matsuzawa’s (producer of the excellent Ringo Otome, three stars in 2009), development department wrote in one of her emails:


“iTQi優秀味覚賞を受賞させていただいてからというもの、おかげさまで工場は大忙しです。
特に三ツ星を頂いた「りんご乙女」は予想以上の販売量で、原料のりんごが切れてしまわないか毎日ハラハラしながら、
うれしい悲鳴を上げております。”


Which roughly translates into:


“Since our product’s quality has been recognised through the Superior Taste Award, organised by the International Taste & Quality Institute (iTQi), our plant has not stopped producing! Our sales of “Ringo Otome”, rewarded with three stars, have increased in an incredible way and we’re always a bit worried of not having enough apples, prime ingredient of our biscuit. But this fear does make us happy, so it’s not too bad… Not bad at all actually”.


And while we’re not surprised, considering the substantial research backing our concept, getting such feedback always makes us happy as it proves we are working on something that helps small and large producers equally in promoting their exceptional products!


It’s the kind of comments that, since first edition of the Superior Taste Awards, have kept us going. It is those comments that have maintained and increased our belief that our unique concept, combining a detailed Sensory Analysis and a clear, easy to communicate Marketing Tool, are effective in helping our clients meet consumer expectations and increase their bottom line.
